The Role

The Senior Science Communications Manager leads Addgene's scientific content strategy across blog, video, eBooks, protocols, and social media. This is a player-coach role — you will set editorial direction and manage a small team of communications and video specialists and external writers while producing a meaningful share of content yourself. You bring genuine scientific depth, exceptional writing skills, and the ability to make complex molecular biology accessible to researchers at all levels. You will work closely with Marketing, Content, and Scientific Curation to connect authentically with the global scientific community, and partner with Addgene's scientific staff to maintain the accuracy and credibility our audience expects.

To Succeed in This Role, You Will

Lead editorial strategy — define the editorial vision, manage a content calendar, set quality standards, and identify content gaps across all channels. Define messaging frameworks that clearly articulate the value of Addgene's offerings to researchers, partners, and the broader life sciences community.

Produce scientific content — write and edit blog posts, eBook sections, video scripts, protocol content, and social copy. Translate complex molecular biology concepts for broad scientific audiences with clarity and authority.

Manage and develop your team — coach and develop communications and video specialists, maintain efficient production workflows, and build a science-first team culture. Manage external writers — assigning work, managing timelines, and editing copy to ensure quality and consistency with Addgene's voice and standards.

Own channel performance — set and track engagement targets, optimize content for search and reach, and use data to iterate and improve.

Engage the scientific community — manage Addgene's scientific social media presence, support communication efforts around conferences, events, and partnerships, and develop materials that support business development, partnerships, and open science initiatives.

Support organizational communications — contribute to forward-looking content such as annual impact reports, stakeholder communications, and organizational milestone announcements that reflect Addgene's mission and progress. Assist with media relations as needed, including supporting press releases, monitoring coverage, and maintaining relationships with relevant scientific publications.

Collaborate cross-functionally — partner with Curation, Marketing, and scientific staff to surface stories, support campaigns, and co-create credible content that strengthens Addgene's reputation in the research tools space.
