In this position, you will support the plasmid lab and production through the preparation and maintenance of media, reagents and consumables and the assistance of deposit intake tasks.

LOCATION & POLICY ON REMOTE WORK

This position will work out of our Watertown, Massachusetts Headquarters. Our beautiful office space has free, ample parking with a complimentary shuttle from Harvard Square and is on multiple bus lines, with the cost of public transit covered by Addgene.

 

The Role:

In this position you will contribute to Addgene’s mission by preparing media, maintaining our inventory and common reagents as well as assisting lab technicians in receiving deposit DNA and the intake of non-standard plasmid intake. 

To Succeed in this Role, You Will:

  • Prepare liquid and solid media, antibiotics, competent bacterial cells and other common reagents
  • Assist Lab operations manager with inventory stocking and maintenance
  • Assist Lab Technicians with routine work related to standard or non-standard plasmid deposits including pooled libraries and kits. 
  • Assist in the creation of bacterial tubes to restock stored inventory
  • Receive deposits, perform quality assurance on bacterial samples and aliquot DNA.
  • Organize and maintain glassware including washing and autoclave activities
  • Clean/maintain work area and lab equipment and restock supplies as needed

Skills and Competencies

  • Associates degree/Certificate in Biological Sciences with 0-2 years experience; Certificate in Biotechnology or related field considered
  • Basic knowledge of aseptic techniques required
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; both verbal and written are essential
  • Self-motivated, organized, able to work independently
  • Familiarity with general computer software, Google Workspace, and MS Office a plus
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English; strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills required
