Controller, Director
The Role:
Recently, Addgene set out plans to launch an exciting, bold, and forward-looking 10-year vision and strategy in a rapidly changing global landscape for science. This vision will be achieved through a business strategy that positions Addgene as a global leader in the life sciences and maximizes its impact for the benefit of science and the science community.
The Controller, Director is a key leadership position that will support this vision and requires a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of corporate finance, accounting, and business operations, as well as the ability to manage and mentor the finance team. In this position, you will oversee the financial operations of Addgene, ensuring accurate financial reporting, regulatory compliance, and the development of effective internal controls. Addgene generates $26 million in annual revenue with 120 employees.
To Succeed in this Role, You Will:
- Lead and manage all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable and cost accounting.
- Maintain and support a strong company wide internal financial control environment.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements under U.S. GAAP.
- Manage and execute monthly and year-end financial reporting, General Ledger activities, and the accounting close process in NetSuite.
- Lead the development and execution of the budgeting, forecasting and long-range planning processes, providing detailed variance analysis to assess actual performance against financial projections.
- Facilitate the implementation of a standard cost system to enhance inventory valuation, accurately record cost of goods sold (COGS), and provide production detailed variance analysis.
- Lead the year-end audit process in collaboration with external auditors, facilitate any tax filings and oversee the management of the company’s insurance program.
- Provide grant processing and accounting support, overseeing compliance with funding requirements and accurate financial reporting.
- Collaborate with the People team to provide guidance and advice on payroll issues as needed
- Manage and mentor the finance and accounting team, creating a culture of high standards and continuous improvement.
Skills and Competencies
- BA or higher in Accounting, Business, Finance, or related is required
- CPA required
- Over five years of relevant general ledger accounting/reconciliation, preferably in standard cost/manufacturing
- Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and cost accounting.
- Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills to seamlessly integrate with colleagues across various levels and departments.
- Public accounting experience required, and both public and private company experience preferred (minimally, public accounting in a private company)
- NetSuite superuser, with recent experience using NetSuite to design custom workflows and utilizing it for journal entries, including standard cost accounting
- Proven experience managing and owning the month and year end close processes
- Experience actively contributing to or leading an audit process
- Experience with budget creation and financial planning and analysis (FP&A), with a focus on budget planning preferred.
